The pattern is consistent: take something that required API calls and cloud dependencies, rebuild it to run on consumer hardware, and open-source it. On the media side, Reclip and similar tools treat downloading and self-hosting as a solved problem rather than a feature request. Separately, there's genuine technical work happening in less visible corners: PageIndex's vectorless RAG approach, H2O's continued development of classical ML infrastructure, and Mellea's abstractions for generative programming suggest that the field is moving past the initial wave of transformer tokenization and asking harder questions about how to actually compose and reason over these systems.
