The pattern across these stories is not disagreement about AI's importance but rather the absence of any shared framework for managing it: tech companies are accelerating capability and reducing friction, regulators are investigating after incidents occur, workers are experiencing degradation dressed as augmentation, and philanthropists are preparing to give away fortunes earned from systems whose long-term consequences remain genuinely unknown. Coverage that treats each announcement as independent news obscures the structural reality that AI deployment is outpacing institutional capacity to govern it, and the institutions that could theoretically coordinate are instead optimizing locally for speed, profit, and control.
